The iEvac Escape Hood is is one of the most expensive escape hoods in the marketplace – and there is a good reason for that.  The iEvac Escape Hood is one of the few escape hoods that offers protection from almost everything that can cause you physical damage from the air that you are breathing.

Not only Fire and Smoke protection, but also protection from CBNR agents: Chemical, Biological, Nuclear, and Radiological.

The number one cause of death and injury in a fire is carbon monoxide.

Note: there are numerous hoods on the market that claim to provide adequate protection against smoke and fire but actually offer no protection against carbon monoxide.
Unless your escape hood provides protection against carbon monoxide, it will not provide the adequate protection needed in a smoke fire situation.

  • chlorine
  • ammonia

  • sulfur dioxide
  • formaldehyde
  • tear gas
  • and a host of additional toxic agents

  • Offers some of the most complete protection against a wide range of dangerous agents.  This will relieve the stress and anxiety associated when you are in a situation where you will need to use it; thereby allowing you to focus on your #1 Objective: Get yourself and family out of the Danger Zone and into a Safe Zone.
  • By having an iEvac Escape Hood – you know that you have some of the best overall protection that is available.  Will it protect you from every dangerous agent you can come across out there – NO, there is really no single product or system that can do that – but for a consumer product it comes close.
  • One size fits all.  Just grab it and put it on.  You don’t need to check to see if it will fit a child or an adult – just put it on – and get out.
  • Has one of the better neck strap systems to make sure you are getting a complete seal – which is very important for any air respirator device.
  • Expensive.
  • One Time Use.
  • Only offers protection for your head – many CBNR agents can enter your body through contact with your skin.  This product is a very good component in your overall CBNR protection system – but remember it is only one of the components you will need to consider.
  • It’s rather large and will be a little difficult to carry on your person on a daily basis.  This product is geared more towards being placed in a ready position inside your home, office or even your car.

How to Use the iEvac Escape Hood.

If you live near a Military Facility, a Nuclear Power Plant, a High Potential Terrorist Threat area, a major Chemical Processing or Handling Facility  you should really consider an iEvac Escape hood for your disaster kit.

If you live or work in a high rise building [higher than 5 floors], frequently travel by subway, train, or plane - you should really consider an iEvac Escape Hood.
The iEvac Escape Hood is the perfect solution for:
  • Children: Because 1-size fits all.
  • Seniors:  Quick and Easy to put on.
  • For People who wear Glasses.

One word of warning:  The iEvac Escape Hood constantly sells out and can go for a couple of weeks being out of stock. So if you are interested in the iEvac Smoke Hood – plan accordingly.

Why Elmridge Protection does not list how long their iEvac Escape Hood will last in a fire or a CBRN event.

Side Note: This is an important topic that you should understand for any type of air filtration device you are considering.

There are 2 very important reason why there is no time limits given – and why you should be cautious of the ones that do.

Reason #1:  Environmental Variables:  There are no [standardized] levels for the amount of particulates in the air [dirt, dust, smoke, etc.],or the levels of toxic gases in a fire or the concentration of dangerous agents in a CBRN event.  Every event will be different.

All of the escape hoods basically work the same way.  As you breathe in, the bad air outside of the mask is drawn in through the filters, which does 2 things;

  1. Removes the small harmful particulates in the air, [smoke, dust, and other air borne contaminants] - similar to the way a particulate filter works.
  2. The air then passes through a chemical canister that removes the dangerous chemicals in the air, [i.e. Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen Cyanide, the CBRN Agents and many other chemicals].

How long these filters will be effective against these toxins is directly related to the concentration of the contaminants in the air that you are in.

  • The denser the particulates are in the air [dirt, smoke, dust, etc.] the faster the filters will get clogged and the effectiveness of the filters will be diminished.
  • The higher the concentration of dangerous chemicals in the air – the faster the active chemicals in the canisters will be consumed thereby reducing the effective protection from the canisters.
  • Note:  The iEvac Escape Hood uses a 2 Filter/Canister design which greatly increases the usable time duration of the Escape Hood.

Reason #2:  The People VariablesYour physical condition and the exertion level you are going through while you are wearing the mask will also greatly impact how long the Escape Hood will be effective.

One thing that you can be assured of is; if you need to escape a dangerous area -  you will be working and exerting yourself  during the exiting process.

The harder you work – the harder you breathe – the more air [oxygen] you need.

For these 2 main reasons- you need to take the “Protection Times” listed [when they are listed] on these Escape Hoods as general guidelines and not as specific time limits

It’s best to look at these products as what they are designed to do:  To buy you valuable (limited) time when you need to ESCAPE from the DANGER ZONE to where the SAFETY ZONE is located.

Once you put one of these devices on – your #1 Priority becomes: ‘To Get Out – AND – To Get Out as Fast as you Can!”  Do not think you can use these products to fight a fire or to rescue people.  They are not designed to that.  They are designed for 1-thing and 1-thing only: To Get Out.

The iEvac is a remarkable escape hood because it can be used for protection in BOTH Fire conditions and CBRN events

Other escape hoods only offer protection from either fire events OR CBRN events.  When seconds count – you don ‘t have the time to determine if the escape hood you have – will work in the situation you are in.   With the iEvac- there is no decision to be made – just grab it and put it on.  You know it will work.

The iEvac Escape Hood was tested by the “US Army Research, Development & Engineering Command Edgewood Chemical Biological Center”, for both the noxious chemicals found in the smoke of fires and the dangerous chemical agents associated with CBRN events.  The iEvac Escape Hood passed their rigid testing and was awarded certification to American Standard ASTM E2952.
